I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

While waiting for the plumber to arrive, remove any important items from the area, and wipe up any water or put a bucket to catch any drips. If you turned the mains water off, also switch off the heating for the hot water as well.

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.
