I have a plumbing emergency, what should I do?

If you’re unable to locate a water valve to turn off, then you may want to try turning on all the cold taps inside and outside the residence to depressurise the pipework and minimise the leak.

Once you have stopped the leak from getting worse, give our emergency plumber a call, at any hour of the day or night. They’ll be there promptly to resolve the issue.

While you are waiting, clear away any important things close to the leak, and clean up any water or place a container to catch the drips. If you turned the mains water off, also switch off the hot water heating as well.

Help, I don’t know where the main water shutoff valve is!

You may have been shown it as a stopcock, isolating valve or toby. This valve is normally located on the boundary near the road, usually under a blue or black plastic cover.

Remember, many appliances and fixtures have their own isolating valves as well.
